Marsellus Wallace is the gangster boss for whom hitmen Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega work. He is married to Mia Wallace, an aspiring actress. In the film's narrative, Marsellus is seen bribing an aging boxer, Butch Coolidge, to intentionally lose his upcoming match. Butch double-crosses Marsellus by killing his opponent. Later, Butch sees Marsellus crossing the road and is chased into a pawnshop. The shop owner, Maynard, captures both men at gunpoint and gags them in the basement. Maynard and his accomplice, Zed, take Marsellus into another room and rape him. Butch breaks free, kills Maynard with a katana, and frees Marsellus, who then incapacitates Zed. Marsellus tells Butch to leave Los Angeles forever and says he intends to "get medieval" on Zed.

The basement of the pawnshop was dark and damp. Butch Coolidge, having just killed Vincent Vega in his apartment, was trying to escape when he saw Marsellus Wallace crossing the road. Marsellus chased Butch into the pawnshop. Maynard, the shop owner, captured both men at gunpoint and gagged them in the basement. Maynard and his accomplice, Zed, took Marsellus into another room and raped him. Butch broke free, killed Maynard with a katana, and freed Marsellus. Marsellus then incapacitated Zed. He told Butch to tell no one about the incident and leave Los Angeles forever, while he himself intended to "get medieval" on Zed.
